Source of Funds: How the Verification Process Works and What Documents You Need

Find out how MrQ's Source of Funds verification works, what documents we accept, how to submit them and how long the checks take.

Why have I been asked for Source of Funds documents?

Why does MrQ need to check my finances?

As a UK-licensed casino, we're required to verify the source of the money you use to play and ensure gambling is affordable.

These checks are part of our legal and regulatory responsibilities, and they help us keep things safe and fair for everyone.

These checks help us meet our regulatory obligations and support safer gambling.

Whether you verify through ClearStake or by providing documents, we'll only ask for the information needed to complete our checks. This could include payslips, bank statements or other proof of income.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Your deposits or withdrawals may be temporarily paused while we review your documents.

  • If we don't receive the information we've requested, your account may remain restricted.

  • We'll only ask for the information we need and handle your documents securely.

You can find out more about these checks on the Gambling Commission website.

What documents do I need to provide?

That depends on where your money comes from. We'll let you know what's needed based on your circumstances. We may ask for:

  • Proof of income: Documents showing where your money comes from.

  • A recent bank statement: Preferably in PDF format.

  • Proof of payment methods: A photo of any payment methods you've recently used with MrQ.

Here's a handy guide to the documents we may need, depending on your circumstances:

A few tips before sending your documents

To help us review everything without unnecessary delays:

  • Send clear, uncropped documents, preferably as PDFs.

  • Make sure your name, dates and income details are visible.

  • Check that the information matches across your documents.

Not sure what to send? No problem. Send us what you have, along with a short explanation, and we'll guide you through the next steps.

How long does a Source of Funds check take?

There's no fixed timeframe, as every review is a little different. How long it takes can depend on:

  • Your documents: Some cases need a more detailed review.

  • How busy we are: Higher volumes of requests can mean longer waiting times.

  • Additional information: If we need more documents, the review timeframe starts again once we receive them.

Our Player Experience Team can let you know our current review timeframes, but they won't be able to give you an exact completion date or your position in the queue.

We know waiting isn't ideal, and we'll work through your documents as quickly as we can. Our Player Protection Team handles these checks independently, so our Player Experience Team can't speed up the process.

What happens if you need more documents?

If we need anything else to complete your checks, we'll get in touch and explain what's missing.

Once you've sent the additional documents, the review timeframe will start again from the date we receive them.

What is ClearStake?

ClearStake is a secure way to verify your financial information using open banking, without having to send documents manually. Open banking lets you choose to share specific financial information directly from your bank.

We can only access the information you've given permission to share.

ClearStake uses Nuapay, an FCA-authorised payment institution (registration number 624067), to securely connect to your bank.

How does ClearStake work?

It's pretty straightforward:

  1. Choose ClearStake when you're asked to verify your finances.

  2. Log in to your online banking through the secure connection.

  3. Approve the request to share the relevant information.

  4. That's it. Once you've given permission, your bank securely shares the information needed for our checks.

You can connect more than one bank account if needed.

Do I have to use ClearStake?

Nope. ClearStake can make the verification process quicker and save you the hassle of gathering documents, but it's your choice.

If you'd rather provide documents instead, just let us know and we'll explain what you need to send.
