What documents can I use to verify my MrQ account?

Need to verify your MrQ account? We've got you. Depending on the checks we need to complete, we might ask you for proof of identity, proof of address, or both.

Here's a handy guide to what we accept and how to make sure your documents are good to go.

What can I use as proof of identity?

We accept the following documents to confirm your identity:

  • UK or non-UK passport

  • UK or non-UK photocard driving licence

  • Non-UK national identity card

  • Residence permit

  • UK CitizenCard or PASS card

  • Identity card issued by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland

  • Firearms certificate or shotgun licence

What makes my ID valid?

Before sending your ID, make sure:

  • It's valid and hasn't expired.

  • Your full name and date of birth match the details on your MrQ account.

  • All the information is clear and easy to read.

  • You're sending a clear photo of the original document.

We can also accept good-quality scanned copies of passports, driving licences and non-UK identity cards.

A couple of things to remember:

  • Residence permits: We'll need a photo of both sides, as your date of birth is on the back. Scanned copies aren't accepted.

  • CitizenCards, PASS cards and other specialist ID: These must be photographed rather than scanned.

What if I don't have Photo ID?

Don't worry, there may be other options.

In some cases, we can accept a birth certificate, supported by an additional document issued by a public authority showing your full name and either your address or date of birth.

We may also be able to accept an original DWP benefit notification or benefit book, alongside a supporting public-sector document.

These alternatives are only accepted for certain verification checks. We may still need photo ID later. If you don't have photo ID, we may recommend applying for a CitizenCard.

Not sure what to send? Get in touch with our Support team and we'll help you figure out your options.

Can I use a tenancy agreement?

Yes! We accept tenancy agreements from local councils and housing associations.

The requirements depend on your tenancy type:

  • Starter or introductory tenancy: The agreement must be dated within the last 12 months.

  • Assured, fixed-term or secure tenancy: The agreement must be dated within the last 5 years.

Your name and address must match the details on your MrQ account.

Can I use my driving licence as proof of address?

Yes, in some cases.

Your photocard driving licence can be accepted as proof of address if:

  • Your name, date of birth and address match your MrQ account.

  • Your licence is valid and doesn't expire within the next 2 months.

  • No additional proof of address is needed as part of your verification checks.

Important: If you've moved house and need to update your address, your driving licence can't be used as proof of your new address. We'll need a separate document instead.

What makes a proof of address document valid?

Before sending your document, double-check that:

  • Your name matches: The document should show the same name as your MrQ account.

  • Your address matches: Your full residential address should be visible and match your account.

  • It's recent enough: Check the dates in the table above.

  • The issuer is clear: We need to see which bank, company or organisation issued it.

  • The issue date is visible: We need to know when the document was issued.

  • Everything is readable: Blurry or unclear documents may need to be sent again.

Can I send a screenshot or PDF?

Yep! For proof of address, we can usually accept:

  • A clear photo of the document.

  • A PDF downloaded from the original provider.

  • A screenshot showing all the required information.

  • A scanned copy of the document.

A cropped document may also be accepted, provided all the required information is visible.

Just a heads-up: Screenshots, scans and cropped documents are accepted subject to our verification checks. We may ask for an original or a different copy if needed.

For proof of identity, the requirements are a little different, so check the ID section above before sending anything.

Can I hide my bank account details on a statement?

Yes. If you're sending a bank statement as proof of address, you can hide your bank account details.

Just make sure we can still see:

  • Your full name.

  • Your residential address.

  • The statement's issue date.

  • The bank's name and logo.

Avoid making other changes to the document, as we may need to request another copy if important information is missing or the document appears altered.

What documents can't I use?

Some documents won't meet our verification requirements.

For example, we can't accept:

  • DBS letters as proof of address.

  • Letters addressed to "The Occupier" instead of your name.

  • Expired ID documents.

  • Documents that are too old for the relevant requirements.

  • Unclear or unreadable documents.

  • Documents with missing information, such as your name, address or issue date.

  • A driving licence showing a different address when used as proof of address.

If your document doesn't meet our requirements, we'll let you know what else you can provide.

How do I upload my verification documents?

The easiest way is through your MrQ account.

  1. Log in to your MrQ account.

  2. Tap the profile icon in the top-right corner.

  3. Follow the instructions to upload your documents.

Prefer email? You can also send your documents to [email protected].

What happens after I've uploaded my documents?

Once we've received your documents, our Verification team will review them.

If everything checks out, we'll confirm when your account has been verified.

If we need anything else, we'll get in touch and let you know what to send.

Just a heads-up: We may still ask for additional documents in the future as part of our routine verification checks.

Still need a hand? Our Support team is here to help you get things sorted.
