1. What’s changing and when?
From 9th April 2025, The UK Government is introducing new maximum stake limits for online slot games. These changes will introduce limits on how much you can stake per spin:
- £5 maximum stake per spin/game cycle for all players effective from 9th April 2025.
Then, from 21st May 2025, there will be a further reduction in the maximum stake for younger players.
- £2 maximum stake per spin/game cycle for players aged 18–24, effective from 21st May 2025.
- Players aged 25+ will have the £5 maximum stake.
These limits apply across all UK-licensed gambling websites, regardless of the operator you use.
2. Why is this change happening?
The changes are part of the UK Government’s wider efforts to improve player protection and encourage responsible gambling. They aim to help players keep control over their gaming and avoid harm, especially among younger adults.
3. Does this apply to all games?
No – the new stake limits only apply to online reel-based slot games. Other types of games - such as Live Casino, Bingo and Roulette - are not affected by this change.
4. What does this mean for me?
If you play slots, you’ll notice that the maximum stake available will align with those stated above, based on your age, once the change is fully implemented on 21st May. These limits will be applied automatically, so you don’t need to do anything to adjust – but it’s good to be aware before the changes come into effect.
